Michigan winters are long and cold, so this frosty season I'm leaning into the hygge of it all. As an adult beginner at piano, I often write what I could imagine myself playing. I paired simple voicings with pop-inspired progressions and arranged it in a neo-classical style. I followed the melodic contour and included almost all of the original pitch material, primarily changing rhythm and duration. As I wrote this, I imagined a more formal structure emerging, so I kept the project in sections thinking it could eventually expand into something larger.
